Flashtapes have many functions. They can remove resin flash from the edge of the laminate, hold the consumable package in place or tape down the pleats of the vacuum bag. Flashtapes have good mechanical properties and chemical resistance and will release clean without leaving residue on metals and composite details. Shrink tape is modified polyester, which when heated undergoes shrinkage in the length wise direction only. This characteristic is used to consolidate mandrel wound composite preforms and uncured rubbers, to form high quality low void components.  The shrink tape is fastened with flashtape, and spiral wound along the component.
