Unidirectional material, also know as UD or uni, has all of the fibre running along the warp axis (i.e. along the length) of the roll. The fibres are held together with a weft thread or thermosetting. Multiaxial fabrics are non-woven fabrics, with layers of unidirectional fibres which are stitched together and fixed through a sewing thread or thermosetting. Multiaxials are also termed non crimp fabrics, as the fibres lay flat and are not crimped in any weaving process, thereby delivering improved mechanical properties, particularly in compression. Biaxial, or bidiagonal fabrics have the fibres crossing each other in 2 different directions, typically 0/90° or +/-45°. Triaxial and quadriaxials comprise three and four fibre orientations respectively, although drapability and workability begin to suffer with these heavy constructions.

+45º Biaxial fabrics, also known as non crimp fabrics or double bias fabrics, consist of two layers of UD fibres oriented in different directions and stitched with polyester yarn...
